The Years Go Fast and The Days Go So Slow

It was a really good Saturday. Evelyn, Kevin, Danielle and popsicles in the park. The only things missing were Jash and Paola. And maybe some sunscreen.

One Horse Town

The third and last day of our 29 Palms trip. Jash and I had planned on getting home early in the afternoon since we both had a bit of work to do. However, one thing led to another and we ended up making the most of our last day on vacay. We took a brief trip to Pioneertown. There really wasn't a whole lot going on so we just got snap happy then went on our merry way. Jash had never been on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and was dying to see it. The trams now have a rotating floor so you get a 360 view the whole way up which I think is a bit of sensory overload. Particularly after a trip to Wendy's. Nevertheless, it was worth feeling a little queasy to enjoy the breathtaking views from the mountain top. I felt like we were in the Swiss alps. The only downside to the excursion was that I was terribly ill-dressed for it. My dress was highly susceptible to the fierce gusts of wind. Wouldn't be the first time I'd wished I opted for jeans. Won't be the last...

I breathed up as much of that fresh mountain air as I could before we headed back down the tram and in our car to L.A. The air is far from fresh in my neck of the woods. But ya know what? As refreshing as it is to get out of L.A. for a bit, I'm always itching to get back. It's filthy and busy and people have attitude, but it's home and I love it. Unconditionally :)

Dry On A Desert High

Day 2 of our 29 Palms getaway. We lounged by the pool in the AM then headed out to Joshua Tree. And believe it or not, I went rock climbing. Not the kind that involves harnesses and propelling and what not. We went up those rocks with our bare hands and sneakered feet. I made it all the way to the top of a gigantic rock pile with a panoramic view and was probably way more proud of myself than I needed to be. We ended the day with a sunset walk in the desert behind the Harmony Motel. Then I made an elaborate anniversary dinner for us to enjoy under the very visible stars. A failed attempt to watch a movie on the IPad resulted in some more dancing to Lykke Li followed by a good night's sleep. This is the life.

Thanks for reading :)

The Lady From 29 Palms...

I borrowed my post title from an old Sinatra song we played a bunch during our trip to 29 Palms this weekend. Robert Plant also has a song about 29 Palms that Jash loves but I think is terribly dated. We got in late in the afternoon with just enough daylight left for a brief desert walk. I got the pancho I'm wearing in the photos at Olvera Street a couple months ago. It seemed perfect for the desert. In fact, I brought every fringy, crocheted, Native-American feeling piece of clothing I owned as it seemed the appropriate attire for the setting.

That night I made my favorite meal (baguette, goat cheese, tomatoes) yet again and we danced around to the new Lykke Li album and watched Wild at Heart. Both seemed the perfect entertainment for a night in a desert motel. Here are pics from Day 1...

We just arrived home about an hour ago and Jash is already asleep on the couch. I have a busy week ahead getting my collections at work ready to show in New York for Market Week. I also have a few pieces I've been commissioned to make. That's more like play than work though. The desert energy and landscape never ceases to inspire me so I'm really really looking forward to diving into these projects. Hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend!

Pacific NorthWest Native

Here are some more pics from my trip to Portlandia. Jash had Sunday off and we had a splendid day exploring. We drove around various districts looking for the perfect place to have lunch and a good local beer. After a couple hours of driving and a few minutes of bickering (I get irritable when I'm hungry- another senior citizen aspect of my personality) we settled on The Doug Fir. We ended up lounging there all afternoon enjoying happy hour dirty martinis and playing with Jash's new IPad. We used it to book our anniversary trip to 29 Palms while we enjoyed our drinks. Pretty pretty cool.

We copied the recipe for a good night that we perfected in Solvang and got a baguette, tomatoes, goat cheese and wine and went back to our room to enjoy the view of the Columbia River. Oh sweet simplicity...

We are currently enjoying the aforementioned anniversary trip to 29 Palms We're staying at the Harmony Motel which is cool beyond words. Many photos coming soon.

I almost forgot- Happy Easter!
