So I Creep, Yeah

A little TLC never hurt no one. Quite the contrary, TLC is my jam...

What most certainly is not my jam is the assortment of creepy, intense faces I made in all the shots of this ensemble. This was the only salvageable photo of the bunch. I gotta get the serious face posing thing down. Maybe one day I'll do a blooper post with the several awkward photos I've accumulated since starting this blog...

Vivid Dreaming

"Vivid Dreaming"- my new collection of quirky and colourful necklaces is now available at Tavin Boutique in echo park. At $38-$42 they are the perfect wallet-friendly holiday present. (The name of the group comes from one of the side affects of the malaria pills I have to take before my trip to Africa) :)

City of Angels

Happy Black Friday, y'all! I hope you are not stressed out/being trampled/fighting over Tickle Me Elmos/etc.

Jash and I had a very mellow Tofurkey day which included riding around the streets of LA on the Harley and having an Indian-inspired thanksgiving feast with all you can drink champagne at Naya in Silverlake. (such a great place. The food was ridiculously good and the service was even better. I highly reccomend a visit)

After a long nap, we ended up at Taix for the third year in a row to drink and dine with Fabi and family.  I love doing the unconventional on holidays. Wandering the eerily silent streets of our big city and feeling free to do whatever we please. But at the end of the day, I was counting my blessings just like everyone else. This year I'm particularly grateful to have the support and love of a wonderful man, to call the most incredible people my best friends and to have landed such an awesome job recently. Life is good, and though LA drives me crazy sometimes, I'ts days like yesterday that make me so happy to be exactly where I am :)

Future Street

Had a terrific day at work followed by the most miserable commute. An hour and a half to get home. No joke. Man oh man, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I've never seen myself living on the Westside. It feels like an entirely different city. And I love Echo Park, but I love my new job just as much. Maybe more. Since I'll be spending half of my time in Ghana for the first half of next year, it's not an immediate concern. I'm working on ways to cope with the rage-inducing traffic, like killing time at the Goodwill on Venice Blvd. and purchasing some audio books on i-tunes (just got Anita Shreve's A Change In Altitude, which appropriately takes place in Africa).

It's all got me thinking about the sacrifices we make to grow. And spending 2-3 hours a day driving to and from work is one of those sacrifices. I had it pretty easy before this...4 day work week, 15 minute commute. I knew what to expect and it was all pretty mellow. And it was fun while it lasted. But I'm so happy to be given the opportunity to challenge myself. I want to grow and learn and look back on my life and feel like I accomplished everything I could, that I lived up to my potential. I think I'm on the right path....even if does end on the Westside ;)

a fortune I received this past summer...Think it's coming true...

Grrrrr. Argh.

Finally. It's cold enough to wear this ridiculous children's teddy-bear vest that I love so so much. The most man-repellent article of clothing I own...

The Pleasure Of Her Company

Yes, this blog is at times an homage to Fabiana. She is, after all, the very reason I don't solely wear Abercrombie and American Eagle and listen to bad music. All it took was a Freshman year drive from Santa Cruz to LA for Thanksgiving break for me to see the light. A few hours with an ahead-of-her-time-hip Fabi and her impressive i-pod selection and a fruitful stop at the Levi's outlet and my dormant cool-side surfaced at at last. Here she is in all her glory, after Chimays and french fries at Figaro Cafe...

End Of An Era

Today was my very bittersweet last day at 1928 Jewelry. I'd only worked there for 3 years, but it felt like a lifetime. There were ups and downs- as with any job- but at the end of the day I feel like I'm leaving a family of sorts. I'm feeling such an odd assortment of emotions right now. Just plain sad to say goodbye to my home-away-from-home, excited for this new opportunity, terrified about this new opportunity, and pleasantly surprised with myself for taking this somewhat radical leap. I can't predict the future, particularly with all the unknowns involved with my new endeavor, but I can take comfort in knowing there is no way in hell I could have passed this up. And whatever may happen, making this move was something I absolutely needed to do. Somehow it all feels meant to be.

In slightly shallower news- I wore this to meet up with my beloved friend Fabi who was visiting LA from San Fran to celebrate her adorable Mom's bday this past weekend. I got such rave reviews from Fabs and her sister, Jazmin, that I think i will double dip and wear this exact number to my new j-o-b tomorrow...

Bells

I'm a very bad blogger, I know. Sorry for the delays between posts. Typical excuse of being insanely busy. I had a brunch with some old friends, two weddings and a family birthday party this weekend. And tomorrow is my first day at my new job! I'm equal parts excited and nervous, but mostly i'm just thinking about what I'll wear the first week.

Here are some shots from my friend Shelley's wedding at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts. From the found in the forest vibe to the brides fairytale hair the entire evening utterly enchanting...

I will do my very best to get a few posts in next week but it may be tough with the new job and all. I now have to commute to Santa Monica. Bleh.

Hope you all you have a wonderful week!!

Arrowhead

Some more shots from last weekend's trip to Lake Arrowhead with the gang. Most the weekend was spent killing time between meals. Aside from the food some highlights include winning Mafia (again!!), a brief trip into town with Dani to visit the local thrift shop, playing harmonica to Kevin's guitar strumming, a Snow White themed photo shoot (see below), and impromptu dance parties in the kitchen. These are my very favorite weekends...
