Layers In Los Angeles

I'm back and boy does it feel good. I've happily retired flowy skirts and long dresses in favor of long sleeves and layers....

Home

After a month here in Ghana, I am so so so ready to be back in LA with Jash, our cat, and my best amigos. I'll be back on my home soil in T minus 2 days. It's so close I can almost see it!

Only In Africa...

...would you find me wearing a simple t-shirt and jeans- sans a huge necklace, colorful scarf, or giant bow in my hair. Simplicity has never been my jam, but I think it may be growing on me...

Wedding Bells

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding here in Ghana over the weekend. Not too different than an American wedding, though there was an incredible live gospel choir and band that played as the newlyweds danced out of the church. A tradition I think I'll adopt when I have my big day :)

And apparently weddings are the place to go to see the best local fashions because the outfits were just amazing. So many patterns and colors and giant hair accessories and not a single person in a simple LBD...

Chasing Waterfalls

Took a trip to Boti Falls- which is usually a huge waterfall with surrounding attractions two hours out of Accra but was completely dry when we visited. Boo. Regardless, It was lovely to take a little road trip out of the big busy city. Most of the fun occured on the drive up where we stopped at various points of interest along the way. I have a brief warning to issue to anyone who plans on visiting rural Ghana: don't pee in bushes on sides of roads here. I made this mistake and was nearly attacked my a HUGE snake (at least 5 feet long!!) that was creeping up on me. Trust me- just hold it.

The Cocoa plant- the seeds are used to make the delicious chocolate here

250 stairs to the waterfall- my legs are still sore

My top-notch coworker (and tour guide), Adwoa

palm wine...not my fave, but I'm attempting to try everything once

Kid In A Candy Store

My suitcase is going to be absurdly heavy after a very lucrative trip to the Koforidua Thursday Bead Market. All the glass bead makers in the area gather to sell very affordably priced strands of their lovely works. I found the exact same african glass beads I've purchased at Bead Source in Silverlake for 1/20th of the price!! I cannot wait to get back to L.A. and into my workshop to play with my pretty purchases...

Coastline

After taking care of business on Saturday I explored the Ghanaian coast- visiting Bojo Beach and Krokobite Beach. Most the pictures below are from Bojo where visitors must cross a large pond by boat to get to the coastline. In a desperate attempt to return home tan, I also spent Sunday afternoon baking in the sun at Labadi Beach which appears to be very Cabo-ish- complete with ATVs, horseback rides, and locals selling all sorts of stuff.
