Golden Glow

Wore this to my grandma's bon voyage dinner at my family's favorite restaurant, Shamshiri (it's so beloved that my brother and sister-in-law named their dog Shammy after it) I knew it would be wise to wear something roomy as I always always overdo it when we eat here. So I got resourceful and wore a skirt as a shirt, threw on some new jewelry I designed over the weekend and head out to eat myself into oblivion...

skirt: Vintage, top/skirt: American Eagle, heels: Nine West, beret & shades: vintage, jewels: vintage and self-designed

A quick shout out to my ridiculously smart and successful big bro, Henry. His company was named the 207th fastest growing company in America! You can read the article here. So so proud of him :)

Life And Such

Apologies, readers (I hope that should be plural) for my less than inspired blogging as of late. I've been trying to stay afloat with a few new jewelry projects thrown into what already felt like a packed schedule. Nothing makes me happier than having exciting new creative endeavors on the horizon, but making everything happen and handling real-life stuff (RE: taxes, car stuff, etc, etc.) is oh-so-tiring.

I am aware that I sound like a whiny brat and to make it even worse I'm going to tell you this: sometimes I long for the simple days of adolescence when my summers consisted of Sweet Valley High books, magazine collages for my friends and tanning competitions at Danielle's mom's pool. We didn't know how good we had it...There is so much responsibility and pressure to be successful as an adult and sometimes I want to just move to Indiana and live on a farm, barefoot and pregnant style, sheltered from the stresses of building a career and making money. BUT. As tiring and busy as my life can sometimes seem, I love it. I love being busy with projects I want to be working on and I love building connections with people as a result of those projects. The pressure to succeed can suck. A lot. but I find that not having expectations and just accepting the challenges that come my way with a "go-with-the-flow" sort of attitude makes it all a little less intense. Here I go sounding all new-agey and spiritual but the mantra I keep repeating in my head is this: Come from a place of love, not fear. Cheesy to the max but so so true. I love my hectic schedule, I love my memories of simpler times, I love knowing that everything will work out just as it should.

There's my 20 cents on life and such and here are a few shots of what I've been up to lately...

I actually managed to cross all but one item off this list. Yoga/Run...not today!
Ginourmous beers with Dani before watching One Day at LA Live. Tearjerkers are way more tearjerking when tipsy. FYI.
Homemade sopes at a welcoming dinner party for Fabi (and now my) friend Sara who just moved to LA from Portland
quality time with our cat, Martel. Our hot-cold relationship has been on the warmer side.
Watching an unhealthy amount of Mad Men. The outfits, the jewelry, the Don Draper...to die for.
Better than Draper...enjoying lots and lots of QT with Jash since his return home from a 2 week work trip
Happy Hour absinthe cocktail at Thirsty Crow. Yes.

Beautiful, colorful, yummy beads I picked up at a gem show in Long Beach over the weekend.
where the magic happens....been spending a ton o time in ye old workshop fixin up some real purdy things

Thanks for reading friends (again, I hope that should be plural) :)

Copy Cat

Ripping off cool friend Fabi yet again. Picked her up from her mom's when she was in town for some Old-Town Pasadena wandering and could not get over the adorable Minnie Mouse bow in her sky-high updo. Got her blessing and bought the same exact one at H&M that very day. I didn't even try to make it my own. Nope. Just threw that ish up and popped a bow in just like my girl. See.....

jeans: J brand, purse: vintage, striped tee: Gap, jacket: K Mart (aint no shame in my game) (or maybe there is since I had to add that in parenthesis...), silk scarf: xmas gift, clogs: Big Buddha, bow: H&M

Craft Night

Pretended I was in 7th grade and had a ladies craft night with Darija and Danielle. What a wonderful way to spend a work night. We cooked up some soyrizo and potato hard shell tacos (no one makes those anymore!!) and made friendship bracelets with Twin Peaks playing in the background all the while. Lots of laughs, some wine, and a few funny pictures...

Friends 4-eva!!

The Bargain Store Is Open, Come Inside

I finally did it- I had a yard sale! Well, more of a sidewalk sale. Danielle and I set up shop at an empty lot across the street from our local coffee shop- guaranteed traffic and no need to put up signs. It was a pleasant and successful event. Friends stopped by throughout the day to keep us company and we got to know some of our customers/neighbors. And I made enough to pay for my coffee, breakfast, and some future trips to other people's yard sales. Yep. Recycling my profits.

However, the very best part of the day was having a reason to wear my awesome fanny pack belt thing that looks ridiculous when worn on any other occasion....

Berkeley Girl

One of my all time favorite videos. Partly because it's shot in my 'hood but mostly because of the beautiful simplicity of the main characters' lives (the artist Harper Simon himself and a very graceful Jena Malone). You'll see and you'll love it too :-)

Reunited And It Feels So Good

Dani and I met up with our gorgeous friend Darija last week for the first time since high school. We all had a whale of a time so we made concrete plans to see her friend Emily's band play at 1642 in Echo Park the following week. We've also planned a Twin Peaks marathon night for next week. It's so easy to say things like "yeah we should totally do that sometime" when someone makes a suggestion. Then some back and forth planning and rescheduling usually ensues when you eventually try to make it happen weeks later. So lately I've been saying something more like "yes let's do that next week. How about Wednesday" and it actually happens effortlessly. I used to be the poster child for playing it by ear but setting a plan and making it happen is my new cup of tea. Yet another positive outcome of Yessing.

Back to Darija- she's the coolest. Check out her blog, The Dot Spot and see for yourself!

This is what I wore....

skirt: Indah, belt and shades: vintage, black tank: Wet Seal, booties: H&M, (awesome) necklace: imported from India

Happy Sat :)

They've Got The Land, But We've Got The View

The last day spent with Dear Brigette. We went to the Griffith Observatory only to find out it was closed. Boo. I was actually relieved because the best part (for me) is the view. It was hazy as hell but still a good time. Then we went shopping again. I am forbidding myself from purchasing any article of clothing until I have a garage sale which I have been planning to do "next weekend" since May. So much work but maybe next weekend :)

p.s. apologies for my inability to retire these shorts

And Brigette has officially left the building. Back to Indiana she goes. Farewell, old friend!! Los Angeles is patiently awaiting your return :)
